step 1: apply a thin layer of essie strong start as a topcoat

step 2: use a thin striping brush to apply each colour in a wavy line, starting at the cuticle and working towards the end of the nail

step 3: continue with alternating colours until nail is covered

step 4: go back and add fine lines to fill in any empty spaces
